OUR Cubs

Who We Are

Cubs is the second section of the Scouting movement, originally started in 1916 for younger brothers who wanted a 'look-in'. In nearly a century, the section has constantly evolved and adapted its programme and methods to meet the changing needs of each generation of young people, and these days admits girls as well as boys.

Our Programme

Over the next few weeks we are planning to do activities to help the cubs learn some scouting skills. We will be looking towards gaining our navigator badge. We will also be looking at camping skills such as fire lighting and putting up tents.

If as a parent of a cub or a parent of a future cub you would like to know more about our plans feel free to ask or contact us via our email or facebook page.

What We Offer

Cubs take part in a wide range of activities designed to be interesting and challenging. A Cub Scout meeting consists of games and activities with plenty of time spent outdoors.

Camps and holidays are some of the most memorable events of the year for Cubs.

Cubs 100 year, 2016

In 2016 we  commemorated one hundred years of Cub Scouts with local and national celebrations.

In 1916, the section we know as Cub Scouts was formed and within its first year 30,000 young people joined. Cub Scouts has grown to over 150,000 members who enjoy fun, challenge and adventure across the UK.

The Cub Scout Promise:

I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to God and to the Queen
To help other people
And to keep the Cub Scout Law.

The Cub Scout Law:

Cub Scouts always do their best
Think of others before themselves
And do a good turn every day.

The Cub Scout Motto:

Be Prepared

Cub Scout badges and awards

There is a range of badges and awards available to young people in the Cub Scout Section.

Activity badges

Many of the badges available are activity badges, which allow Cub Scouts to show their progress in existing pursuits, but also to try all kinds of new things and form new interests.

Challenge awards

Gaining a challenge badge involves accomplishing a number of more ambitious tasks within the Pack or community. There are several challenge badges across a number of themes, from the physical and outdoorsy to challenges dealing with the local community or issues connected with the Scouting world.

Core badges

In addition, there are a number of special badges, obtained upon joining or moving on from the Pack, or for time spent in the Scouting movement.
